Résumé :
Suite à un conflit, Sam et Astrid se séparent, et le garçon va tenter de résoudre le problème grandissant du manque d'eau. Il fera une grande découverte dans la base militaire se trouvant en bordure de la Zone. Mais son absence profite à Drake, qui partage désormais le corps de Brittney, tout deux étant devenus immortels et suivant les ordres du Gaïaphage. Un nouveau parasite vient compliquer la situation déjà précaire de la Zone, en pondant ses œufs à l'intérieur de Hunter, le chasseur des adolescents prisonniers. Quant aux restes d'entre eux, ils commencent à être touchés par une terrible grippe bien plus dangereuse que la précédente, qui vouent ses malades à la mort. Caine et Diana se sont isolés sur l'île des milliardaires avec suffisamment de vivre pour tenir des mois, mais contrairement à ce que la jeune femme espère, cela ne semble pas suffire à Caine...

Nouveau tome de Gone, nouvelle tragédie... Alors que les héros pensaient être tranquilles avec l'absence de Caine, c'est Drake qui parvient à s'échapper. Et soyons honnête, si l'autre est terriblement intelligent et machiavélique, on adore le côté « brutasse » de Drake. Au moins, il n'y a aucun remord lorsqu'il se fait fracasser. J'ai trouvé la trame concernant l'épidémie accrue, un peu exagérée, pour moi elle ne servait pas à grand chose. Même chose pour les guêpes tueuses : à part le côté parasite très bien exploitée avec Hunter et Dekka, c'était un peu trop facile. Le lien Diana / Caine et le parallèle avec son besoin de grandeur est excellent et très bien décrit. C'est triste car cela fait très "vrai". Le personnage de Dekka est très bien écrit, cette fille (enfin ce personnage) est incroyable de courage. C'est une icône et c'est très agréable de la voir en haut de l'affiche. L'interruption des relations Sam / Astrid permet au lecteur de souffler, car le personnage du petit génie est parfois un peu lourd. Sommes toutes, un très bon tome, même si j'ai préféré la façon dont les choses sont racontées plutôt que la trame en elle-même qui est un peu légère ce coup-ci...

Summary:
When Sam looks up in his classroom, his teacher is gone. After he found Astrid “The little genius” and his friend Quinn, the teenagers have to face the truth: all people above 15 years old have vanished from the city. The Zone, whose center is the nuclear reactor, is surrounded by a barrier that no one can cross. The town becomes a bubble cut off from the rest of the world. No more grown ups, and some weird powers seem to appear among the kids. They begin to divide into groups, and the kids from a private school become agressive... Sam has also a secret... And he realises that he’s not the only one. Pete, Astrid’s autistic younger brother has a big connection with what happened. Friendships are tested, and tensions grow. But the main worry is: what happens when you turn fifteen?
Review:
Gone is writer by Michael Grant, the husband of Katherine Applegate (writer of the great Animorphs, Everworld, Remnants). Immediate best seller, Gone is great from the beginning until the end. After a few dozens of pages, I found myself feeling close to some of the kids (which might have been hard, since I’m no longer a child!). The story is great and we are eager to learn the truth. No wonder it was a hit with the teenagers! The characters are complex, even though they seem quite smart for kids. The truth is raw: we find anorexia, cowardice, autism. It never gets boring: the first words are describing the moment where every adult went missing. One weird thing happened: the animal mutations... Where is the explanation ? (same problem in Remnants, actually). But the others explanations were great and quite logical. Now I want to know where all these powers came from ! Let’s hope the other five books of the series are as good as this one!
