Review:
Alpha & Omega is the new series of Patricia Briggs, who wrote “Mercy Thompson”. Unfortunately, here it doesn’t work. Briggs surely knows how to write and her style is nice, but her books lately are a lot alike and don’t offer any more suprises. Her themes are often the same and give a boring aspect to the text. It’s always about who dominates whom and who is dominated by whom, with an obvious romance... Mercy Thompson is a great series because its main character is strong and ballsy. She shouts louder than the others and yet she’s supposed to be dominated by all of them ! Here, Anna is weak, she’s a victim, and the other characters aren’t very nice... It would be nice for Briggs to get new stuff, just the way Kelley Armstrong did it !

Catlin est une femme comblée qui a vraiment tout pour être heureuse : Un mari avocat qui l’aime et un beau-fils de 6 ans Geordie qui l’adore. Tout va basculer quand elle dépose Geordie à l’école le lendemain de son anniversaire et qu’il se fait enlever. Le problème est que personne ne va revendiquer le kidnapping et qu’étant la dernière à l’avoir vu vivant, elle va faire une coupable parfaite. Les mensonges sur lesquels repose son mariage vont refaire surface et son rêve de « famille parfaite » vole en éclats ! A la fois soupçonnée par son mari et la police, elle va devoir tout mettre en œuvre pour se disculper et retrouver Geordie.

Encore une fois, Patricia Mac Donald ne fait pas dans la dentelle et l’on est « de suite » au cœur du sujet. En effet les drames psychologiques et les sombres secrets de famille sont « sa tasse de thé ». Les personnages sont attachants, on voudrait faire quelque chose pour aider Catlin, mais avec tous ces non-dits plus que des mensonges finalement, elle se fait rattraper par son passé, et bien sûr le catalyseur est l’enlèvement de Geordie. Pourquoi ? Y a t il un rapport avec son passé ? Comme à son habitude Patricia Mac Donald nous tient en haleine du début à la fin en brouillant les pistes à merveille !! J’ai été bluffée par la fin de l’histoire !
